Rob Dorgan has an MA in European History from the University of Cincinnati. He began writing fiction at the age of seven with his first short story, “Murder at the La Brea Tar Pits,” followed by “Murder at the Art Museum.” Since the second grade, his interests and content have changed, but his love of telling a good story has remained.
While working on his doctorate, the trajectory of Dorgan’s life path was drastically altered when he was introduced to the mystical arts of astrology and yoga. He left academia and, along with his partner, Steve Bolia, moved to Colorado to study and work with Linda Goodman, the author of Linda Goodman’s Sun Signs, Love Signs, Star Signs, and Gooberz. He then mentored many years with master astrologer and teacher of the Ancient Wisdom, Alan Oken.
Dorgan began studying yoga in the 1980s when most people in the West thought it was a cult. He studied with many yoga teachers including Sianna Sherman, John Friend, and the preeminent Sally Kempton in meditation. Yoga, along with astrology, changed his life. While Dorgan’s debut, Awakening the Mystic, is fiction, it is full of real possibilities for the future of our human species and Mother Earth.
Dorgan is a certified yoga educator, international retreat facilitator, meditation teacher/devotee, and a practicing astrologer. He is currently working on a sequel to Awakening the Mystic, along with a memoir about his time as Linda Goodman’s personal assistant and a collection of short stories based on his unique childhood with his mom, Dottie.
Dorgan welcomes the opportunity to have live chats with reading groups about Awakening the Mystic. He is also available to speak on the benefits of yoga and meditation, as well as teach group and corporate classes. He also offers one-on-one meditation and astrology counseling sessions, which focus on using those tools to better understand and love yourself and to uncover your inner council, for a fuller life.
Steve is the ‘quiet one’. He is far more comfortable behind the scenes, offering help and guidance to any project or endeavor. After Rob came to what he thought was the end of this writing project, Steve stepped in to help bring continuity and flow to the storyline by arranging and rearranging the chapters. Steve is an avid meditator and yoga teacher and along with Rob, he facilitates yoga/meditation retreats around the country. He has had an amazing time while helping Rob with Awakening the Mystic, his involvement has forever changed him.
Yoga teacher Ren Devlin’s life changes forever when his yoga and meditation practices unlock what was once deemed impossible—leading to a miraculous event witnessed by hundreds. Suddenly hailed as a spiritual healer, Ren and his partner Sean are thrust into the spotlight.
Amidst the chaos, Ren delves into dreams and deep meditation, encountering his “council”—the zodiac’s gods and goddesses, guided by Saturn and Venus. They lead him on a path of spiritual healing, addressing the kleshas—five afflictions causing suffering. To find peace, Ren confronts his Catholic upbringing’s negative views on LGBTQ+ issues and women, battles his ego, and faces his fear of death and loneliness without Sean.
